Objectives of the Biometric Research in the 3D Face Project
The final objective of the 3D Face project is to increase the performance of the core technology to a level allowing its fully operational implementation in airports and to integrate privacy protection technologies that allow for a more secure usage of the biometrics.
The research will combine 3D Face recognition, multimodal feature analysis with various approaches (surface metrics, texture metrics, fusion of algorithms) and privacy protection technologies.
These objectives will be validated under operating conditions compatible with that of an airport environment.
- Low sensitivity to working conditions
- Fast processing
- Non-intrusive operation
- Respecting privacy requirements
- Harmonized with the international standardization process
- Interoperable
- Compatible with current 2D systems
- Open to future improvements in components.
The 3D Face project will clearly focus on five aspects:
- Research and Development of advanced methods and systems for 3D Face recognition
- Research and Development of advanced fusion methods allowing the migration of different information (3D shape, 2D image, high resolution face texture)
- Privacy protection technology (protection, revocability and renewability of biometric templates)
- Validation of research results at operational sites in an airport environment
- The active contribution to a new international standard for 3D Face recognition.
Overall, the 3D Face project will strengthen the leading European position in the face recognition market and stimulate excellence of research.
