Multibiometric reference data in sufficient quality is used within Europe and beyond to verify the identity of persons at borders against the claimed identity within biometric (travel) documents and/or identifying criminals in certain real life scenarios. Different application scenarios demand for high reliability of verification and identification. Thus multimodal high speed biometric systems are needed. Within the workshop the impacts and possible scenarios for border control is addressed to identify current possibilities, drawbacks, and future development of biometric systems in border control processes.
Will the authentication processes at border control become more efficient and more secure? High ranking speakers from FRONTEX and from the German Border Police (Bundespolizei) will outline possible answers in their keynotes. The workshop will discuss the progress in biometric research that is achieved with 2D and 3D face recognition approaches and research on efficient fusion techniques for multiple information channels. Furthermore a focus will be set on privacy enhancing technologies research that allows the revocation of stored biometric references.
The Workshop of the 3D Face project took place on September 11, 2008 at the premesis of the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD, Darmstadt, Germany (Directions / Getting there).
